Best output so far

NYSERDA gave me the okay to do my reporting at the end of the month rather than on the 27th.  Feb. is the perfect month to make the switch.

This month the wind picked up.  Too much wind last weekend.  Those peak wind speeds = turbine shut down.  The wind was an average of 8.5MPH for the month.  Power made 432KWH

During the really strong winds the noise came back, it must be the breaks. But over all, it is still much  quieter now that the hub has been tightened.

  1. couple questions as I just found your site.

    1. is your production what was projected before you began?

    2. on your faq page you mention 32k+ and the 25k+ fees. was the 25k a rebate you subtracted off the 32k or am I looking at it wrong.

  2. If you had a chance to do it again, would you actually consider buying a ReDriven turbine?
It seems you have had alot of problems and the energy you have actually produced is not very impressive.
In searching the internet, it looks like a number of their customers have had horrible experiences with their service. Not to mention defective equipment from the get go.

  3. Kurt,
My production is not what I calculated. I think all pre-wind turbine owners think they are going to be making a ton of power. When you are thinking about buying a wind turbine or waiting for one to be delivered, the wind is always blowing. The wind has been very disappointing to all wind turbine owners this year. Non wind turbine owners have unrealistic expectations on how much power they will produce. For example: On really windy day, we don’t make a lot of power. The gusts make the wind turbine go into protection mode. It is shut down during wind storms. From 0-3 meter per second it is also shut down.
I paid $32,000 up front, another $1,000 or so for extra cement, permit etc. I got $9,000 back in a Fed tax credit.
So my cost would be $24,000. NYSERDA paid $25,600
Regarding the Anonymous question- Would I buy again? I guess the highest price for the wind turbine was worrying about Redriven’s ability to keep going. If you read the expert Paul Gipe’s book on home wind energy new wind turbine manufactures come and go, few make it long term.
I think I’m getting about the same power I would have with a Bergy, but I wouldn’t have the hydrolic tower ( love that) , no tail on the turbine (Looks really nice), less noise ( I hear the Bergy’s make a lot of noise). Maybe I’d have less gray roots if I purchased a Bergy? I haven’t really investigated any of the new 10K manufactures, but I’d say if they are new, they run that same risks you have with Redriven. If no one ever risks investing in a new company, then how will we ever get new home wind technology?
If I could get all my money back and have them take it way? ( I haven’t heard of anyone successfully getting their money back- ever) If it were possible would I do it? No, I really like being a wind turbine owner.
