Redriven was here this week.

Redriven was here Tuesday and Wednesday this week. They got the wind turbine running Tuesday afternoon but night we started getting contiunous nacelle faults.  The next day they came back but couldn't get the errors to stop.  They now think the wiring between the controller and the nacelle is picking up interference.  They said they would be back this coming week to work on it again. I think replacing the controller cable to the nacelle.   It kills me that we are missing all of this great wind, this would have been the best month ever.

  1. Your experience, and that of your commentators with Redriven turbines, has convinced me Redriven is not the way to go. They seem really unreliable. Do you know anyone who is posting blogs on other turbines, especially Endurance and Bergey turbines? They seem to be much more reliable, esp. the Bergey. And is there any way you can return your obviously very flawed turbine?

  2. I’ve never seen anyone else blog their results. Occasionally you will get someone on the small-wind-home@yahoogroups.com group posting one month or one day’s results. They are tough crowd. That group eats anyone that posts a question up for breakfast and then wonders why no one will post questions or results. Usually, people only report the best day or month they ever had. It is not easy reporting that I spent $32,000 dollars and only got 7 dollars of power last month. The truth is not always easy to say or hear.
I knew that Bergey has been doing the same design for 20 years and was reliable, but I also knew that a Bergey, which I price out many years ago, was not going to meet my power needs. I chose Redriven because they had the potential to make more power than a Bergey, the turbines look better, and they have a hydraulic tower. You have to know when you buy a wind turbine this is not going to be plug and play. This is like having an antique car that takes some care a feeding. I really don’t know much about Endurance brand. Redriven is a new company and an evolving design. All new companies always have growing pains. If you are looking for no maintenance and reliable – I think solar power would be a better choice. I don't want to return it. I still believe that Redriven is going to make this work. They have some very hardworking smart people that really want the company to succeed. I hear that Redriven still has a huge backlog of orders so if you ordered now; you would most likely get a system that is a few revisions newer than what I’ve got a year from now.
